Thank you Sean! It was a lot of 'serious fun' being on your podcast Some Things Considered with Bill Miller, and to have the opportunity to talk of the philosophical underpinnings of our work there. Thank you for your work and generosity to our community.

I also wanted to give a shout out to our founding director, Matt Davis whose work constructing the center in 2015-2016 formed the pillars which we proudly uphold today, including the fellowships, translation festival, and writer residencies with international writers as well as writers in exile. His vision, alongside the founding board, including Bill, Susan Shreve, the Cheuse family, and Stewart Moss is a big part of the philosophy of the center.

When Mason School of Art and Mason Exhibitions was able to bring the Syrian artist through the Artist Protection Fund, Matt Davis had also been working behind the scenes. These processes take many years to reach fruition and the artistic infrastructure of writers who need protection is informal at times and is made more robust by hours spent behind the scenes by multiple organizations and people, like Matt. It is that commitment that is so essential to the survival of ideas and what Azar Nafisi calls the Republic of Imagination.

In the throes of the conversation we didn't have a chance to tip our hats to Matt and also to the writers themselves. To the 27 fellows, 250+ artists and writers, stakeholders, partners, and of course, our wonderful Advisory Board, that includes former students of Alan Cheuse. I can’t possibly list all the amazing partner organisations, like Mason Exhibitions's team led by Don Russell and Yassmin Salem, OLLI, the City of Fairfax, the Fairfax County Public Library, and so on, but please learn more about these vital grass roots organizations via our web site.

You can learn more about that team, our mother ship Watershed Lit led by Kara Oakleaf and Alice Magelssen-Green & the School of Humanities and Social Sciences and Alecia Bryan, which is instrumental in our development, as well as our advisory board, and our new translation programs co-director, former Cheuse Fellow Judy Leserman on our web site. We look forward to having your audience sign up for our newsletter and come to our 2025 Translation Festival September 29 (Busboys and Poets), Sept 30 (day long at George Mason) featuring Peter Cole and Marta Sanz, our resident from Spain. https://cheusecenter.gmu.edu/subscribe#
